Hallie... again
Hallie, on tipetoes, looking at the plate of sliced tomatoes with balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, and basil sitting on the counter:
"Eww! Eww! Ewwie! Yuck, get me away from that stuff!!"
Me: "Hallie, what's wrong? You like tomatoes!"
"Yeah, but I don't like that... (hands wrenching and fluttering)... sparkly stuff!"

This totally made me chuckle.
Too cute!
RYC: There's no real deep answer to your question; mostly, I just prefer to exclusively breastfeed for longer. There are some health reasons for this-- avoiding food allergies and later risks of obesity, breastmilk being the "best" food for a baby, etc.-- but when it comes down to it, I've never found that I *need* to start feeding my babies other foods any sooner, and every doctor my children have ever had is totally OK with that. I like to wait until they're able to chew foods (plenty of teeth), hold a utensil a bit on their own, communicate their interests a bit more, etc. It just has worked best for us.
I think it's totally awesome that you've been able to breastfeed Tristan so long! My babies have all self-weaned and it's happened much sooner than I was prepared for-- Gabriel and Bronwyn were 13mos and Jackson was 15mos, when I'd been anticipating them nursing until more like 18mos. The weaning also took place really quickly resulting in major engorgement for me.
I'm hoping to figure out a way to have a smoother, later weaning with Aubrey, but we'll see how I do!
