  • Empty House

Dan left for St. Louis today on business. Seeing as it was in St. Louis, we decided awhile back to send Will along to spend the weekend with Pop and Mima. So they left earlier today, Will wearing his Thomas backback (neatly packed with snacks, books, and a bag of Legos), pulling his little tiger suitcase on wheels behind him. He turned around and called, "'bye mommy!" at least 5 or 6 times during the trek from the house to the car. Such a very dear boy-- and suddenly, so grown up. Waving bye to me and pulling his own suitcase... just so very cute and grown up and ... where did the time go from when he was a fat little baby with the corkscrew curls and the gappy-toothed smile? *sigh* Dan texted me from the airport, and said that they were having a great time together. I'm very glad for them. Will absolutely adores spending one-on-one time with either of us, so I'm so glad they're getting this time together.

But, that means Hallie and Tristan and I are here by ourselves, and with Tristan in bed, suddenly the house seems very empty. There isn't a lot of stuff backed up for me to do, so I'm sitting here typing and watching Hallie arranging her stroller and accessories and singing to herself. My mom gave her a bag of high-heeled dress up play shoes for her birthday, and tonight while parading around in them, she paused to tell me, "Mama, Grandma game me these shoes. I love high heels." before she minced off again. She is a very cute little blonde girl. Having her here to myself is something different. She asks me all the questions she usually asks Will, and she tries all her goofy, middle-child "I'm trying to make you laugh" tricks on me too.

I found out today that I am getting all my wisdom teeth out next month. ('Nuff said.) I already have a scrip for amoxicillin and vicodin from the doc. Maybe I should get them filled ahead of time (ha, ha.)

I'm off to read to Hallie for awhile before bed. Having her all to myself is a rare treat, and I want to appreciate every little minute of it.

    ****edit****
Hallie's in bed, and I have decided that I will: 1. take a hot shower, and 2. hop into my fresh and clean bed with my cozy flannel jammies and read my new Better Homes & Gardens mag.

Sometimes it's nice to have the house to yourself. :)
